17 February, Parliament Grounds, Ambo -TUC Mayor, Taoaba Kaiea hosted the launching of the Council’s website and the initial discussions on an MOU with government, aimed at getting all contractors and project implementing companies to pay a fee to the Council as a condition before starting their project or contract. The government was represented by Hon. Dr. Teuea Toatu, Minister of Finance & Economic Development and his wife, Brucetta.
Another reason for the celebration was the donation of over $80,000 by MP Teburoro Tito, that will be used to fund TUC’s projects.

The function started quite late but the delay allowed for various dancing and singing groups including the TUC staff’s dancing group (pictured), to provide entertainment at the function. The Minister in his remarks congratulated the Council for its landmark achievements and reiterated the support of his government to Councils’ developments.
The Council’s website – www.tuc.org.ki contains information about its vision, objectives and services. Eventually it will include forms and instructions on how to access the Council’s services or pay up obligations. An IT Officer, Nei Tematoro Tieri Karoro has been appointed to manage and update the website.
‘It is one of the few websites by a Kiribati Council and will be used to improve the connection and communication between TUC with its customers, partners and the public’, said Mayor Taoaba.
